The HER Foundation is a Southeast Texas community organization dedicated to empowering girls and strengthening families through education, prevention, connection, and community support.
We believe girls deserve the knowledge and confidence to understand their boundaries, recognize warning signs, speak up, ask for help, and know they will be believed.
We believe parents and trusted adults deserve the tools to have difficult conversations and respond appropriately when a child/teen needs them.
Passing on knowledge to our daughters that we wish we had known at their age.
Breaking cycles, one girl at a time.
THIS IS FOR HER!
BOUNDARIES is designed to help teenage girls develop the knowledge, confidence and communication skills they need to recognize unhealthy or unsafe situations. Not only understand consent and personal boundaries, but also be able to express both in healthy ways. Identify grooming, manipulation and coercion. Navigate online and real-world risks. Speak up and advocate for themselves and other girls. Know how to get help, and what comes next.
We also want to teach parents to recognize signs something is wrong, communication techniques that work specifically for you and your teen because they will be developed with the help of both of you. We will let you teach each other what works for you both and what doesn't. We will help build a safe space where your teen feels comfortable having hard conversations with you, trust you will believe them without blaming them and teach parents how to hear hard things the right way. What to say and what not to say in that moment, what steps to take, and what comes next.
We have professional partners throughout our community that will be guest speaking about the aspects of this that they deal with every single day, as well as women who have lived through it themselves. Passing on knowledge they wish they had known before and after. These volunteers have knowledge and experience to give to you and your daughters that is invaluable.
The program will meet twice a month and include separate age-appropriate groups for ages 13-15 and 16-18. Parents or guardians participate alongside their daughters throughout the program.
BOUNDARIES is educational and prevention-focused. It is not therapy, and girls are never required to disclose personal trauma or share experiences.
The topics are mature but never graphic or vulgar. No person, whether volunteer or participant, will ever go into detail about anything sexual or violent.
We understand these are hard conversations to have but in today's society, these may just be the most important conversations you will ever have with your daughter. We are here to help make sure you have them the right way.
The program is being developed with guidance from professionals in areas including trauma-informed mental health, child safety, youth development, education, medical and legal services, along with input from parents and teens to ensure everything we teach is safe, age appropriate and follows strict guidelines.
We are not here to scare girls or teach them the burden of preventing bad things falls on them. We are here to teach them that even if you do everything exactly right, sometimes bad things still happen. It is never their fault. It is never about what they did or didn't do. They are loved and have people who will help them.
PLEASE NOTE: We are NOT here to talk negatively about boys or men. We are not here to teach anyone that men are bad. We do not teach hate or fear. Those are our sons, fathers, and brothers. We will always speak respectfully and never generalize any group of people into one category. We welcome a father to come with their daughter just as much as we welcome our mothers and daughters because it is important for our girls to have good relationships with their fathers and to trust if something goes wrong, he will know what to do as well. Our girls need good men in their lives, we will never alienate those relationships current or future.
Our focus isn't on boys or men. This isn't about them. This started with - and will always be about - HER.
